The Gardon Gorges
Visit the Gardon Gorges
Designated a biosphere reserve by UNESCO
Classified as a UNESCO biosphere reserve, the Gardon Gorges in the south of France are home to a rich variety of flora and fauna. Discover a region of unspoiled nature where you can enjoy a variety of activities during your stay at Les Cascades campground: hiking or canoeing on the river between Uzès and Nîmes.
Canoe trip
This activity can be enjoyed by everyone, provided you choose the right route. Hire a service provider for your canoe trip, as the Gardon can be a fast-flowing river with variations in water level depending on the weather.
The best time of year to enjoy this activity during your vacation in the Gard is between April and October. Discover various must-see locations for canoeing in the Gardon Gorges, such as the majestic Pont du Gard, as well as the Pont Saint-Nicolas between Nîmes and Uzès, Russan, La Baume, and Collias.
Enjoy a 2.5-hour walk or a day trip.

Hiking
Among the activities not to be missed during your stay in the Gardon Gorges, consider a walk in the countryside or, for the more athletic, a mountain bike ride.
Suitable for families with children, this hike is an opportunity to discover the spectacular landscapes of the Gardon Gorges. The hike can be started from the Maison des Gorges du Gardon in the hamlet of Russan.
La Baume is also the ideal place for a 4-hour walk between Collias and Saint-Vérédème. Another possible hike in the region is a 2-hour walk to the Pont du Gard starting from Vers-Pont-du-Gard.
Swimming outing
Perfect for cooling off in the summer, the pure, crystal-clear waters of the Gardon River in southern France will be a real treat during your camping vacation in the region.
From little-known authentic coves to famous beaches, you’ll find something to satisfy your every desire at the Gardon River. For a peaceful afternoon of family relaxation, head to the beaches at La Baume near Poulx, south of Uzès.
More popular and lively, Alès-Plage is a swimming spot where you will find more people, but various services such as a lifeguard to supervise swimming, restrooms, and a restaurant will come in handy. You can also swim under the Pont du Gard to enjoy a magnificent view of the bridge itself.

Where can you swim in the Gardon Gorges?
It is not possible to cool off in the Gardon River between Dion and Pont-Saint-Nicolas when it is very hot, as it is dry.
However, there are still many places to swim, as springs provide plenty of water under Pont-Saint-Nicolas de Campagnac, all the way to the town of Remoulins.
Where are the Gardon Gorges located?
The Gorges are located south of Les Cascades campground, about 40 kilometers away. You will find them between Uzès and Nîmes.
Discover them about 20 km from the A9 motorway, taking exit 23 towards Remoulins (when traveling north) or exit 25 if you are coming from the south or east of Nîmes.
By bike, you can take country roads and bucolic paths to reach the banks of the Gardon River.
Where to picnic in
the Gardon Gorges?
The Castellas viewpoint, surrounded by nature, offers a unique panorama of the Verdon Gorges, one of the best places to admire the river in the heart of a landscape between blue skies and green surroundings.
Sit back and enjoy your picnic while taking in this stunning view.
